Every dog story carries a heartbeat of unwavering devotion, and Prieta's journey is no exception.
Missing for Weeks, Prieta Was Found Half a Mile Out in San Francisco Bay πΆπ A small dog named Prieta had been missing since the Fourth of July weekend in 2026 when someone called 911 on July 16 after seeing a dog enter San Francisco Bay near the Dumbarton Bridge in East Palo Alto, California.
Menlo Park Fire Protection District crews responded with two trucks, a boat, an airboat and a drone.
Rescuers first tracked the dog from shore with binoculars before following her out onto the water.
Prieta kept swimming farther into the bay.
She was eventually located about half a mile from shore.
Firefighters reached her, pulled her from the water and wrapped the exhausted little dog in towels.
Police officers also assisted during the operation.
Prieta was then taken to a local SPCA.
The best news came afterward: staff located her family, and the dog who had been missing for weeks finally went home.
She had already been lost for weeks.
Then somehow, she found herself swimming farther and farther from land.
Today, Prieta stands as a testament to the enduring bond between dogs and the families who cherish them.
